Shift: Mainly 1st shift, but hours will vary based on organizational need.
Summary:
Oversees the development of clinical laboratory curriculum, training schedules and presentations of classroom instruction for non-certified technical staff preparing for ASCP certification. Is responsible for updating curriculum and following guidelines from the medical directors and technical leadership. The primary focus is to educate and support the non-certified team members as they work in the laboratory and gain competency in the various technical departments. May also support laboratory instruction for the many laboratories within the Froedtert Health System Network and provide similar instruction and support for phlebotomy team member development.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversees the development of necessary curriculum and training schedules to support classroom training for the various technical departments supported.
2. Effectively documents training program curriculum and documents student performance in the program and provides regular updates to WDL’s Executive Team on the overall program performance.
3. Maintains an academic competence with the required materials being presented.
4. Provides effective instruction and support, so team members can confidently navigate the training program and ultimately achieve ASCP certification within the timeframe specified by the program.
5. Acts as the information/instruction conduit with technical leadership and medical directors, ensuring the training priorities are being supported and met.
6. Collaborates effectively with technical leaders so the classroom training style aligns well with the on-the-job experiences provided for the team members.
7. Ensures that the developed training program has challenging and regularly scheduled examinations, which effectively demonstrate the competence of the team members within the program.
8. Demonstrated effective communication and the ability to connect well with team members being instructed to effectively facilitate eager learning and team member success in the laboratory work environment.
9. Maintains needed familiarity with electronic training aids, training tools, LIS, and available computer programs for use in instruction to enhance team member learning.
10. Effectively manages multiple training tracks to support training needs for multiple departments with overlapping schedules.
11. Serves as a role model and an innovative and creative learner with a thirst for knowledge, personal growth and being on the cutting edge of instructional practice.
12. Acts as a training resource for the laboratory executive team, medical directors, operational and support leaders and team members.
13. Supports other special training needs within WDL, Froedtert’s laboratory network and phlebotomy services, as well as necessary compliance, safety and quality requirements. Actively participates in training new team members as needed.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Medical Laboratory Science (formerly Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology), Biology, Chemistry, or other healthcare related field.
2. ASCP certification.
3. Minimum of three years of clinical laboratory generalist experience.
4. Two to three years of experience with training/ providing instruction within the clinical laboratory.
5. Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum and training schedules to support a clinical laboratory training program.
6. Effective communication skills to clearly express complex concepts.
7. Demonstrated listening and observational skills to understand individual differences in learning styles and adapt instruction as needed for team members being trained.
